I need to go grocery shopping tonight, but I don’t want to go grocery shopping tonight.
I hate when this happens.
Well, while I’m thinking about grocery shopping, why not discuss grocery budgets. I haven’t been on one consistently for the last few months mainly because I haven’t done much grocery shopping in the last few months. I haven’t bought newspapers, or clipped coupons either.
We have been eating through our pantry and shopping mainly at the produce market and deli since mid-June. It has worked for us, and I needed the mental break from the organizing and couponing.
Unfortunately, without keeping track of where the money was going, I think more went to take-out than usual, as well as fun stuff, like stopping for ice cream with the kiddos while we are out running errands.
I’m trying to get things back on track for the fall. For tonight’s shopping trip, I have $78.80 in my envelope (yeah I know its an odd amount), and I need cat food, dishwasher detergent, a few paper products, and groceries for a family of 4.
We still have plenty of meat/poultry in the freezer and I just went to the produce market the other day, so we should be good there for a little while too. However, we have absolutely no lunch foods in the house, nor do we have snacks. What’s worse, I don’t even have baking supplies like butter, sugar and flour in a large enough supply to whip up some cookies or muffins.
Looks like tonight’s trip is going to include a lot of pantry staples.
What is your grocery budget? How many people do you feed on that budget?
Let’s discuss and see if we can inspire each other to get on track this fall and know where our grocery dollars are going!
